The latest issue of my lifelong favorite Point de Vue, features a story on the return of the French aristocracy to power. The real ones, the fake ones and the aspiring ones. A stimulating subject to me. It is sickening to see to what lengths the nouveaux-richesgo to acquire the patina of the people whom they are supposedly despising.
The long article with interviews and profiles of some of the most illustrious French aristocrats is based on the book Gotha city : enquête sur le pouvoir discret des aristos due to be published this week. A few years ago I had read another interesting book,Aristocrates et grands bourgeois : Education, traditions, valeursthat I enjoyed immensely. It offered interviews and insights on the intimate perceptions of those belonging to the French aristocracy. The new book concentrates on the power of the aristocrats on the making of France's present and future which sounds quite intriguing, but I'm not quite sure of its raison d' etre or the authors' intentions.
In the same issue of Point de Vue, mon egerie de toujours, Mme Ines de la Fressange.
